  • Fruit Salad

    fruit 002

With almost overripe (overripened?) fruit, LOL!  I made a honey/orange juice/grated orange rind dressing and we added whipped cream~yum!

p.s.  I need to buy another set of rechargeable batteries.  I "lost" mine between this house and the beach house.  I think the batteries are the cause of the blurry pics~strangely, they are not blurry when I use the flash, but they are too bright with the flash--example below:

  • Actually I like the bottom photo better.  You can really see the fruit that way.

The blur could be from a few things.  It could be the batteries, but mostly likely it is from camera shake.  Flash stops motion, so if you are not using a flash and you move, even to take a breath, the camera shakes a bit, and you get the blur.  It looks like camera shake to me on this particular photo.  It drives me crazy when I miss the "perfect" photo because of shake.

  • Battery is not the cause of blurry pictures.  It is because your hand is not absolutely 200% stock still.  When not using flash, the shutter is open longer to take in more light.  The longer the shutter is open, the more blurry the picture is.  Next time, try tripod of some kind.  Prop camera on a stack of book or bag of flour.  You will see the difference!  Perhaps you can figure out how to get self protrait out of your camera but use it to take other pictures that don't have flash... don't touch camera is the idea to ensure camera is not moving at all.  I have same "problem" with my point-and-shoot camera.  Am I being clear?  If not, I'll need to try again!  With my SLR camera, I could change the settings and determine if I MUST use tripod or not... to still get crystal clear picture.  You could try by moving table lamps from other rooms  try lit up the specific area brighter.  Take that bowl of fruit salad outside.  Overcast is best so try taking a picture in shade if sunny.

That fruit bowl do look so delicious!  I'd about eat this monitor!!

  • @Southernlass - Flash doesn't "stop" the motion.  The shutter moves so much faster that it seems that way.  On my SLR camera, if I use flash, the shutter usually is set at 6/10 of a second.  Humm, too bad Xanga does not offer IM option.  You and I were responding ot this thread exactly at same time.

Okay--so maybe I need more light when I take pics indoors?  That does make sense to me, because the pics I took outside (the freebies bowl, the flower, and the witch hazel) were so clear (I did not use a flash in those pics).  The majority that I take indoors are blurry...

I do want a tripod, LOL!  I have thought about it, but never get around to it!

Thanks so much for the advice--I am going to read my manual (I am so bad about that, too!) and try to get these pics right!  ;)

  • I have no camera advice. I bet the fruit salad was delicious!

  • @mjh905 - I would tend to disagree that flash does not stop motion as it was something I read in a photography book a looooong time ago.  However, this is something I would be willing to test out on my camera, since I can also set shutter speeds on my camera.  Shooting water running should do the trick.

Good to see we do both agree the issue was shake.

  • YUM!!   That looks good!  =)

I read the post about your lo....hope he gets better soon!  My niece had something similiar happen to her.  She acted like she just had a little cough and that was it...turned out she had rsv!!  Kids are tough buggers!!
